South Island Odyssey - 3 - Christchurch and beyond.

The Rakaia River, looking across a clear waterway to the next growth covered shingle island.

The Rakaia River, at this point, not far from the river mouth, a mile (1.6km) wide expanse of shingle banks interspersed with waterways. A typical South Island shingle river crossing the Canturbury Plains.

Taken 26th December, 1963.
